PUMA has recently introduced its latest creation, the PUMA VELOPHASIS, which has been causing a stir after being seen on the feet of British star Skepta at the Paris Fall/Winter 2023 Men’s Fashion Week. The silhouette has been the subject of intense marketing and several visuals have been released, showcasing its various variations and colorways.
The design of the PUMA VELOPHASIS draws inspiration from an important part of the brand’s archive, the PUMA COMPLETE line. This line was a defining license of the 2000s for the brand and allowed for the development of revolutionary technologies such as iCELL, e+CELL, and EverRide, which have been used by runners around the world. The VELOPHASIS takes the heritage of the COMPLETE line and updates it with a modern twist, incorporating the visual codes of the Y2K culture.
The upper of the VELOPHASIS is designed asymmetrically, taking the best of both eras. Its inserts are directly taken from the running shoes of the 2000s, but updated with modern materials. Honeycombed mesh, textured panels, and an aggressive shape pay homage to the heritage of the COMPLETE line.
The first colors of the PUMA VELOPHASIS are based on a contemporary aesthetic. The VELOPHASIS Bionic features a metallic look with cream and electro blue inserts, while the VELOPHASIS Phased is inspired by the Vaporwave movement and the Internet culture of the early 2000s, with bright tones that contrast with the sobriety of its design.
