Herschel Supply opens its first ever retail store in U.S

With no physical store in the U.S. market until now, Vancouver, Canada-based accessories and apparel brand Herschel Supply recently opened its very first store in the United States.

Known worldwide for its famous backpacks, Herschel Supply chose New York, the city that never sleeps, to take its first steps on American soil. The brand founded by the two Cormack brothers has chosen the trendy Flatiron district of New York, at exactly 138 Fifth Avenue, to inaugurate its new unique experiential concept.

We simply love New York. It’s a very special city and has a special energy – and that we get to call ourselves a part of it is something we are very proud of,” said Lyndon Cormack, one of the brand’s two co-founders.

At 2,500 square feet, Herschel Supply’s first New York store was designed by the brand’s in-house team, in collaboration with interior designer Rye Johnson.

As such, the two co-founders and their team arranged the space with old and new materials, including vintage furniture and reclaimed oak tables, to enhance its look. This was complemented by Bocci blown glass fixtures and tile-covered dressing rooms.

At the New York store, visitors will be able to see all of the brand’s collections – one of the largest selections of Herschel products in the world – from backpacks, luggage, travel accessories, and everyday essentials such as wallets and headwear, to its new “Herschel Supply Uniform” clothing line. A portion of the store will be set aside to host local events, including Herschel’s Artist in Residence program.

Our goal for Flatiron, and for all Herschel stores, is to serve as more than just a backdrop for products. They will be true interactive spaces that will come to life through panels, events and giving back to the community. We want to bring the passion we have in Vancouver to New York,” said Niko George, Herschel’s director of global retail, in a statement.

Herschel’s New York store marks another step in the brand’s global expansion. In fact, the brand named after the small Canadian town where three generations of the Cormack family grew up plans to open another store in New York’s SoHo district as well as in Los Angeles, California.

Once the brand awareness grows, we’ll look at other tier-one cities like Chicago,” George added.
