Forget the predictable champagne fizz – Ras Al Khaimah welcomed 2024 with a pyrotechnic punch to the gut, etching its name into Guinness World Records twice with an electrifying New Year’s Eve spectacle.
For eight glorious minutes, the night sky above Ras Al Khaimah‘s 4.5km waterfront was transformed into a canvas of light and wonder. A synchronised ballet of 1,050 LED drones pirouetted overhead, their formations changing from majestic falcons to glittering desert landscapes. Below them, a 5.8km ‘carpet’ of aquatic fireworks erupted from the water, each flower mirroring the constellations above. As if that weren’t enough, acrobatic pyro planes streaked through the darkness, leaving trails of glittering sparks like shooting stars.
The pyrotechnics danced to a specially composed score, each burst and bang in perfect harmony with the music. The air crackled with anticipation, then roared with applause as the final burst painted the sky in a kaleidoscope of colour.
More than 50,000 spectators crowded the various viewing areas, families picnicking on the grass, children mesmerised by the light show and friends cheering as the clock struck midnight. Hotels across the emirate were at capacity and the excitement spilled out into the streets in a joyous celebration.
“The breaking of two more Guinness World Records sets the stage for an unforgettable night of celebration,” said Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. And they celebrated. The air pulsated to the beat of live music as the ticketed SoundFest kept the party going well into the New Year.
