It’s a surprising collaboration, to say the least! La Monnaie de Paris and the French pastry house Pierre Hermé have announced their collaboration on a brand new collection, celebrating the art of craftsmanship.
The mastery of know-how, the search for excellence and unlimited creativity are the watchwords of this exclusive collaboration, carried by the founder of the famous French pastry house Pierre Hermé and Joaquin Jimenez, General Engraver of La Monnaie de Paris.
From the meeting of these two craftsmen was born a series of original and exclusive coins that includes the signature of each house: the famous macaroons for Pierre Hermé, and the gold and silver colors for La Monnaie de Paris.
Two macaroon-shaped collector’s coins were created, one with fine gold shells and a silver ganache, the other with fine silver shells and a silver ganache covered in gold.
On the front side, the initials of Pierre Hermé and the seal of the French Republic are intertwined to better meet. On the reverse side, salt, the pastry chef’s essential companion, invites itself as an unexpected troublemaker to mark the precious macaroon with its crystal, alongside the face value and the different logos of the Atelier de Gravure and the General Engraver, Joaquin Jimenez.
“The mind conceives, the intelligence of the hand gives form to the idea. The drawing is the sketch allowing me to apprehend the architecture of the taste, the volume of the dessert but also the constraints that could be associated with it. Mastering the know-how then gives me the freedom to create”, said Pierre Hermé.
“We immediately found each other both in terms of creation and language. The requirements of our skills are similar, we leave no room for chance, we aim for excellence and uniqueness. We started from our prerequisite, the design, to imagine and then offer a new experience, surpassing always more the know-how of the coinage”, expressed, for his part, Joaquin Jimenez.
