The enchanting designs of Shiatzy Chen whisked spectators, including esteemed actress Michelle Yeoh, into a fantastical universe, painting the scene for Spring 2024. Chen’s creation unveils an experience, blooming amidst the interplay of fiction and reality. A realm, drawing its essence from the ancient tales of the mirage city, home to the mythical dragon emperor of the East Sea, lay before the eyes of the awestruck audience.
Chen was inspired by the mystical attributes of the dragon, specifically the youngest of the 14 dragon children known for its ability to conjure illusions. “In Chinese mythologies, the dragon has 14 children, and the youngest one is called the dragon of mirage. It can create mirages just by exhaling the air. Also, 2024 will be the year of the dragon. It’s a fitting theme,” elaborated Chen.
Underneath an impressive abstract dragon art piece, crafted by the talented Daniela Busarellot and Victoire de Pourtalès, models graced the runway adorned in attire featuring aquatic motifs, reflecting the aesthetics of Qing Dynasty blue-and-white cloud dragon porcelain. Western and Eastern dressing philosophies melded seamlessly, presenting an elegant array of attire, embodying a sublime taste of cultural fusion.
Shiatzy Chen infused the collection with contemporary street-wear. Crinkled comber, sporty bar tops, and distinctive denim designs characterized by mottled and hem-stitched textures introduced a fresh, youthful vibe. An array of daywear, echoing the serene beauty of underwater corals and adorned with lustrous, metallic lace overlays, epitomized elegance.
This season unveiled a notable expansion in men’s attire, echoing the precision and grace of the striped suit, marked with minimal, yet striking embellishments aligning with the stripes, a testament to Chen’s meticulous attention to detail.
