The popularity of the PUMA Suede has not waned, even after more than half a century of existence. The proof is that Tokyo-based brand nanamica has accepted the challenge of revisiting the shoe with its minimalist and timeless blend of sport and fashion.
This new PUMA Suede VTG x nanamica takes the iconic and so recognizable shape of the Bavarian firm’s silhouette, with its premium suede upper. To find something new, you have to look inside instead, as the Japanese brand decided to use GORE-TEX fabrics for the lining to add an extra technical touch to the shoe.
The side formstrips are tone-on-tone stitched and edged with perforations. They are complemented by matching flat laces, a sewn-in label on the tongue featuring the famous embroidered leaping feline and the inscription “In collaboration with nanamica” – the co-braning is also found printed on the insole.
“For our first collaboration with Nanamica we wanted to create something that would be instantly recognizable as a partnership between both brands,” said Ayesha Atlee, Head of Design Sportstyle Footwear for PUMA. “We decided to leverage the PUMA Suede because of its timeless design, mixing it with Nanamica’s neutral swatches and their signature use of GORE-TEX fabric was a must to accomplish our vision.”
The PUMA Suede VTG x nanamica will arrive tomorrow in two sleek colorways: navy blue and tonal beige. They will be available in the nanamica stores below, on nanamica.com, and in select stores worldwide.
