First introduced in February 2021, “Kizuna” is a Mizuno’s series of packs specifically designed to draw inspiration from the brand’s history. “Fishermen” is the latest pack in the series that has just been unveiled.
Celebrating Japanese culture as a whole, its diverse and unexpected aspects, the “Kizuna” series is a truly exciting journey of discovery of which this new “Fishermen” pack is one!
Being an archipelago, water is an omnipresent element in Japan. It shapes the history and culture of the country and it is no wonder that it is the object of celebration here.
The “Fishermen” pack includes three models from the Mizuno Sportstyle line: the Wave Prophecy LS, Wave Mujin TL and Wave Rider 10. All three are adorned with a deep blue that reminds of course the water but also a white to make a nod to the foam. Another nod to the importance of water is the mesh used in this pack for the overlays and base, along with the use of suede, is a tender reminder of fishermen’s nets.
The campaign for this pack was taken in the small fishing town of Ine, Kyoto Prefecture, nestled between the mountains and Ine Bay. Once located on the trade route from mainland China to Kyoto, Ine is said to be one of the most picturesque villages in Japan today, popular with tourists for its unique funaya, or cake houses. These wooden buildings are located directly on the water and serve as both a dock and a house for the fishermen of the village. Today there are about 230 funaya left, stretching along five kilometers of coastline.
