Vault by Vans and Joe Freshgoods have come together to present a new collection called Chocolate Valley Resort.
The collection, inspired by Joe Freshgood’s love of travel and research, is a combination of winter-ready footwear, apparel and accessories that pay homage to travel and visual history.
Drawing from Joe Freshgoods’ design skills, historical references and personal experience with Midwestern winters, the collection features head-to-toe essentials that are suitable for winter and beyond. The accompanying lookbook, set in the 1950s, showcases a black writer exploring the “Chocolate Valley Resort” in search of a safe space for creativity and community. The collection is a tribute to black writers such as James Baldwin and Audre Lorde who traveled abroad to escape racism and build their literary careers.
The line revisits workwear with modern silhouettes and bold colors, with items such as the Resort Puffer, the Chocolate cardigan, the Cabin Tee, the Resort Uniform Cargo and the Logo Puffer Tote. The Resort Mask is also included, serving as both a warm beanie and hood for winter weather.
The footwear line, including the Sk8-Hi Reissue Platform VLT LX and the Slip-Hiker LX, is designed with a two-tone coral and camel almond contrast and a signature platform sole. The collection uses shades of pink, a color that inspired Joe Freshgoods’ style language many years ago, and incorporates a “quilted” pattern into many pieces to lean into winter travel.
Joe Freshgoods, a designer and creative director from Chicago’s West Side, is known for his unique blend of brand storytelling and cultural references in his collections. He is a co-owner of the Chicago Design Center Fat Tiger Works and his collections have been featured in magazines such as Vogue, GQ and Complex. His mission is to tell stories through his collections and he is a strong supporter of art education.

The cream colorway of the Slip-Hiker LX is available exclusively at JoeFreshgoods.com and Every Now & Then stores. Each pair of shoes comes with a key chain.
