For over six decades, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph has been a cornerstone of the chronograph world. This year, at Watches and Wonders 2024, TAG Heuer unveiled a new addition to the collection, drawing inspiration from the historical 7753 SN model from the late 1960s.
The original Heuer Carrera, launched in 1963, was renowned for its clean, legible design – a quality Jack Heuer, the brand’s former CEO, prioritized for racing enthusiasts. The 7753 SN, nicknamed the “panda” for its contrasting black and silver subdials, perfectly embodied this philosophy.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph pays homage to this legacy. Housed in a 39mm stainless steel case, the watch features a silver sunray-brushed dial with captivating black azuré subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock, creating the signature panda aesthetic. Red-lacquered subdial hands further enhance legibility, ensuring clarity at a glance.
TAG Heuer’s iconic Glassbox design makes its debut in the Carrera Chronograph line, offering a clear view of the dial and contributing to exceptional readability from various angles. The curved black flange and rhodium-plated indexes complement the overall look, seamlessly integrating with the tachymeter scale that circles the dial’s edge.
Staying true to the theme of legibility, the central hand features a red-lacquered tip for quick time reading, while the contrasting black seconds hand ensures easy distinction. Red markings at each 5-second interval further enhance visibility.
The allure of the “panda” design extends to the first-ever steel bracelet offered on the redesigned Carrera collection. This bracelet seamlessly integrates with the Glassbox design, highlighting the watch’s vintage inspiration and contemporary elegance.
Flipping the watch reveals the powerful in-house Heuer 02 chronograph movement, boasting an 80-hour power reserve and a bi-directional winding rotor. The timepiece also comes with a 5-year extended warranty.
TAG Heuer expands the Carrera legacy with this new release, introducing the “panda” look with a steel bracelet and contrasting flange. The Carrera Chronograph is also available as a connected watch face, extending the spirit of legibility to the TAG Heuer Connected, bringing Jack Heuer’s vision into the digital realm.
