The Nike Air Max Plus, affectionately known as the “TN” by sneakerheads, has been a mainstay of streetwear culture for over two decades. Its bold design, visible Air Max unit and comfortable cushioning have cemented its status as a legend. But Nike isn’t afraid to tinker with a classic, and their latest creation, the Air Max Plus Tiempo “Red”, throws a curveball at expectations.
Unlike previous Air Max Plus offshoots like the Drift and Utility, which drew inspiration from more general themes, the Tiempo takes a direct page from Nike’s own history. Its design and name pay homage to the legendary Tiempo soccer cleat, a shoe revered for its feel, durability and timeless look.
While an official release date remains under wraps, recent developments suggest that the wait for this unique silhouette may not be much longer. Following a black colorway that surfaced earlier this year and a “Wolf Grey” iteration that hit the news cycle shortly thereafter, official retail images of a striking “Red” version have now been unveiled.
Across all three colorways, the changes to the Air Max Plus DNA are clear. The traditional TPU overlays have been replaced with stitched contours on a full leather upper for a more premium feel. A luxurious leather swoosh adorns the quarter panel for a touch of elegance. The most prominent and undeniable nod to the Tiempo’s soccer heritage, however, is the removable lacing panel. This distinctive feature instantly evokes the iconic look of classic football boots.
While details remain scarce, whispers point to a Summer/Fall 2024 release window for this Air Max Plus Tiempo.
