When Rabanne and H&M decided to join forces, they didn’t just want to create another fashion line; they wanted to create an experience, a visual feast with a Xavier Dolan touch. The three iconic names in fashion and cinema have collaborated to create a short film that beautifully captures the spirit and essence of the Rabanne H&M collection, which will be available in select stores and on the digital shelves of hm.com on November 9, 2023.
Directed by the incomparable Xavier Dolan, the short film is a vibrant journey through color, aesthetics and architecture, blending the boundaries between fashion and cinema. Julien Dossena, the creative maestro behind Rabanne, worked hand in hand with Dolan to create a piece that pays homage to the illustrious era of Paco Rabanne while infusing a fresh, modern and democratic spirit. “I wanted to explore new shapes, a very geometric, slender frame, and of course pay homage to the universe and era of Paco Rabanne through colors and materials,” says Dolan, revealing his artistic intentions behind this grand collaboration.

As the sun sinks below the horizon, the film opens on a modern concrete structure in the middle of a red desert, with models and dancers silhouetted against a purple sky. It’s a dance of light and shadow, with clothing and bodies capturing and reflecting the fading sunlight. From metallic mesh dresses to mirrored sequined accessories, every piece in the Rabanne H&M collection shines, complemented by tailored clothing, sportswear and items from the H&M HOME interior capsule.
Julien Dossena expresses his admiration for Dolan, highlighting his ability to capture the unspoken and bring a cinematic touch to the collection. “I wanted to bring a bit of cinema to the Rabanne H&M collaboration and combine it with Xavier’s sophisticated visual and musical tastes. It is about having fun together and creating beautiful moments,” says Dossena.
Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Director of Design and Creative, echoes these sentiments, expressing her excitement to bring Dolan’s unique vision to the Rabanne H&M collaboration. “A dramatic collection requires a stunning presentation,” she explains, emphasizing the spectacular nature of the short film.
The film is also a gathering of talent. It features top models such as Anok Yai, Noma Han and Rianne Van Rompaey, as well as TikTok star Vinnie Hacker and actor Issa Perica. The film’s festive atmosphere is further enhanced by a troupe of dancers whose movements, orchestrated by Carine Charaire and Olivier Casamayou of I Could Never Be A Dancer, add another layer of excitement to the visual spectacle.
