This year, the evolution is strikingly evident in the Spring 2024 collection of WHO DECIDES WAR, a label that has always been known for its unique and innovative designs. In a recent conversation, the designers behind the label, Everard Best and Tela D’Amore, shared insights into the new collection, highlighting the introduction of feminine styles and the evolution of their signature design codes.
For WHO DECIDES WAR, the Spring 2024 collection is more than just a new set of designs; it is a symbol of the brand’s growth and evolution. Everard Best, one of the designers behind the label, highlighted this by saying, “With this season, you’ll see what we’re known for, but it’s a step in a new direction for us.” The brand, known for its unisex designs, has typically leaned more toward a masculine aesthetic. However, this season marks a significant shift as the collection introduces more feminine styles, such as corsets, elegantly draped dresses, and miniskirts. These pieces not only embody the coolness and urban vibe of the brand but also show an evolution in its design codes.
Tela D’Amore, the other half of the creative duo, explained the decision to introduce feminine styles, stating, “It’s taking our design codes and applying it to women. There’s been such an organic audience of people supporting. It’s time that we actually transition into that [womenswear] world and really create something that’s tailored just for women.” This move is not just a response to the demand from their audience but also a conscious decision to expand and tailor their offerings to a wider demographic.
The new collection also features an evolution of the brand’s signature stained glass window motif and its denim designs. Pieces include distressed denim embellished with rhinestones or laces and tailored pieces featuring silver hardware designed in the window shape. Best shared that the collection was inspired by his father’s tailor shop, where he grew up, which translated through an array of tailored, streetwear-inspired pieces.
Moreover, the Spring 2024 collection marks another milestone for WHO DECIDES WAR as it launches accessories, including handbags and footwear, made solely by the brand. In the past, the brand collaborated with others for accessories, but this is the first time the styles are entirely their own. D’Amore explained the decision to expand their product offerings, stating, “As a brand, where we are right now, it just feels like it’s time to take that next step and elevate and expand our product offerings.”
