With their latest collection, “Twisted Classics,” WE11DONE has been experimenting with different styles and themes over the past few seasons, but this collection has truly embodied their philosophy of pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion.
Inspired by postmodernism and its rejection of universal truth, designers Jessica Jung and Youngjin Kim explored the idea of breaking down traditional codes and conventions in their clothing designs. The result was a collection that defied expectations, playing with unconventional detailing and twisting classic pieces into something new and fresh.
The standout pieces of the collection were the tailored jackets and top coats, which were shaped just slightly oversized and featured two parallel ripples running vertically on each front bodice panel. This subtle distortion was enough to create a noticeable difference, but still familiar enough to be recognizable as a classic piece. The WE11DONE ethos is to create gender-neutral clothing, and this collection was no exception, with men’s formalwear being paired with silver and gold lamé biker shorts and sequined tights.
Fashion has been grappling with the idea of what constitutes a classic or traditional piece in the post-pandemic world, and the “Twisted Classics” collection from WE11DONE is a bold and innovative answer to this question. The brand is not afraid to explore and experiment, and this is what sets them apart from others in the industry.
