Valentino Couture Spring/Summer 2023: A Fusion of Glamour, Craftsmanship, and Club Culture

1 min read

Pierpaolo Piccioli, named best designer of 2022 at the British Fashion Awards, showcased his Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 collection on January 26, 2023. The show was held under the Alexander III bridge, in front of a star-studded audience including Anne Hathaway, Ashley Park, and Charli XCX.

For this collection, Piccioli drew inspiration from the club culture, showcasing extravagance and energy. He believes that couture should break with tradition and reach a wider audience. He wanted to create a glamorous extravaganza that was full of humanity and personalities, much like when young people go to a club and are encouraged to be their best selves.

The coed lineup of 89 looks was a mix of old-school glamour, inspired by Valentino Garavani’s designs in the 80s, and modern, minimal-coverage pieces. The collection was partywear for the post-lockdown generation, featuring neon green tights, platform shoes, sheer pink blouses, and micro briefs.

The show was a fusion of artistry and craftsmanship. Hours of meticulous work went into creating pieces like a tulle jumpsuit with thousands of feather tufts, and a ballgown made from 320 meters of purple taffeta. Despite the underground setting and electrifying soundtrack, the show was a triumph as a fashion spectacle.

Piccioli’s collection was a celebration of the impossible, creating pieces that seemed out of this world. The finale was a parade of luxe ravers who stepped out into the night, cheered on by the crowd. Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 collection was a far cry from the hushed calm of the salons on Place Vendôme, but it was a bold and powerful statement that couture can still be relevant and touch the hearts of the young generation.
