In a groundbreaking collaboration between UNIQLO, the Louvre Museum, and M/M (Paris), the UNIQLO’s new UT T-shirt collection offers a fresh perspective on the museum’s extensive collection. The partnership highlights the convergence of art, design, and fashion in a t-shirt line that transcends boundaries and invites audiences to explore the Louvre’s artistic treasures in an innovative way.
For this collection, M/M (Paris) has chosen to delve into the theme of writing, a unifying thread that spans the Louvre’s collections from the third millennium BCE to the 19th century. This decision inspired the designers to photograph writing details among the museum’s more than 33,000 displayed works of art, eventually creating a unique typography that captures the essence of the Louvre as a library of inscriptions and infinite stories.
The t-shirt collection also features a fresh iteration of “L’Agent,” a recurring character in the world of M/M (Paris). Serving as a metaphor for their working method, “L’Agent” adapts and evolves with each appearance. In this collection, he dons an inverted image of the Mona Lisa, symbolizing a visitor’s perspective as they traverse the Louvre and its iconic I.M. Pei pyramid.
With their renowned experience in designing music sleeves and campaigns for prominent brands, M/M (Paris) delivers a t-shirt series that reimagines the Louvre’s masterpieces through collage and typography. This innovative collection reflects the designers’ passion for creativity and their reverence for the original artworks.
M/M (Paris) expressed their excitement about the collection, stating, “We are very excited about this collection, which gives museum visitors the opportunity to think beyond the obvious representation of the past and proposes a blend of art, design, and fashion in a way that transcends space, time, and culture.“
The Louvre’s President-Director, Laurence des Cars, praised the artistic duo’s efforts: “With Les Écritures du Louvre, the artistic duo M/M (Paris) has truly delved into the richness of our collections to create new encounters between works and the public. I am happy that the Louvre remains a living place, a source of inspiration for today’s creators.“
Since 1992, the creative studio M/M (Paris), founded by Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, has been captivating the world with its artistic collaborations that span logos, posters, advertising campaigns, books, and albums. By fusing typography, photography, drawing, and sculpture, their iconic creations have garnered international acclaim and fascination for over 30 years.
