In a bold move continuing the trend of refreshing its circle of brand ambassadors, Chanel has revealed the dashing French-American actor, Timothée Chalamet, as the new face of its iconic fragrance, Bleu de Chanel.
Following Whitney Peak’s debut as the ambassador for Coco Mademoiselle earlier this year, the announcement of Chalamet’s new role was met with excitement, particularly as it came on the heels of whispers about him filming a commercial in New York, directed by none other than Martin Scorsese, a previous collaborator with the brand. This news follows the unfortunate loss of the previous Bleu de Chanel ambassador, Gaspard Ulliel, who tragically passed away in a skiing accident last year.
Interestingly, despite Chalamet’s well-known status as a fashion darling, this marks his first official involvement as an ambassador for any fashion or beauty label. His noteworthy presence on the red carpet has consistently attracted attention, with numerous brands vying for the chance to dress him.
In explaining its choice for Timothée Chalamet, Chanel stated: “With a dynamic energy as raw as it is refined, the 27-year-old actor has gained a distinguished worldwide reputation, while still at the dawn of his career. Apart from his audacious style and unapologetic charm, Timothée Chalamet personifies the visionary and edgy spirit of the next chapter of Bleu de Chanel: a man who does not limit himself to the ordinary boundaries life sets and looks beyond what is visible.”

His meteoric rise to fame began with his stellar performance in the 2017 film “Call Me by Your Name”, directed by Luca Guadagnino, a role which earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Oscars, making him the third-youngest nominee in that category’s history.
Chanel further noted that the forthcoming campaign “defies the preconceptions of men’s perfumery [and] marks a milestone for Timothée Chalamet as well as the house of Chanel, synchronously ushering in new eras for him as a modern icon and for the legacy of Bleu de Chanel.”
In celebration of this campaign, set to launch in June 2023, the actor was photographed by renowned fashion photographer, Mario Sorrenti. This initial unveiling will be followed by the release of a commercial film directed by Martin Scorsese in the fall.
Apart from his new ambassador role, Timothée Chalamet is set for a busy year with the release of “Dune, Part 2” on November 1st, and “Wonka” on December 13th. Moreover, he is already eyeing his next project, “A Complete Unknown“, a film in which he will depict a young Bob Dylan arriving in New York. Reflecting on his upcoming role, Chalamet mused about New York’s past, saying, “I can’t stop thinking about what life was like in the heart of New York back then – mainly because the neighborhood has become so expensive today. How was it when it was still accessible and yet so rich artistically and culturally?”
Only time will reveal the answer on the big screen.
