CLOT, the cult streetwear brand founded by Hong Kong-born Canadian actor Edison Chen, has partnered with Timberland for the first time on a collection that reflects the iconic elements of both brands as well as the collision between East and West.
For its first capsule with Timberland, CLOT’s design team drew inspiration from the dragon, the legendary creature of Chinese folklore, which seems to take flight on Timberland’s iconic three-eyelet boat shoe.
Available in two colorways “Black” and “Wheat”, the shoe has been revisited with a raised toe cap, reminiscent of the head of a growling dragon. Made with eco-friendly materials like its 34% recycled rubber outsole and Better Leather upper from an award-winning tannery for its environmental commitments, the shoes is also embellished with silk embroidery for the eyes and flames. Additional details come in the form of bright red interior linings and multi-colored rope laces.
“Dragon motifs have always shown up in our designs. It’s mystical, it demands power, and it’s very representative of Chinese culture,” said Edison Chen, founder and creative director of CLOT. “The embroidery is very much an ode to hand-stitch culture back in the day, and abstractly also tattoo culture because it seems to have translated into Chinese tattoos where dragons and all those old motifs are showing up on people’s tattoo artworks.”
In addition to these two boat shoes, the capsule also includes a range of apparel, including short- and long-sleeved T-shirts, hoodies, jackets and pants with a workwear vibe, made from sustainable and recycled natural materials, such as thick duck canvas, 100% organically grown or 100% recycled cotton.
