Timberland steps into a new era with the unveiling of its first Future73 capsule collection, designed by Edison Chen.
This initiative celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Original Boot Timberland, which will see five renowned creators reinterpret the legendary model throughout 2023. Edison Chen leads the way with his innovative designs that incorporate Timberland‘s circular approach, Timberloop, into the iconic boot for the first time.
The Future73 project, announced a few weeks ago, kicks off today as the collaboration between Timberland and Edison Chen, the founder of the CLOT brand, comes to fruition. The partnership is rooted in the Timberloop program, aligning the iconic Timberland brand with the circular economy for the first time. Edison Chen enriches this approach to the future of fashion by blending Eastern and Western influences in a textile collection consistent with CLOT’s vision.
Edison Chen, a Canadian-born Hong Kong actor and designer with a passion for hip-hop culture and style, has always drawn inspiration from Timberland. Their mutual dedication to eco-innovation adds a new dimension to their partnership. “Exploring innovative ways to create products in an environmentally conscious manner that resonates not only with the current generation but also their future offspring… Collaborating with Timberland on Future73 has been a thrilling journey,” says Edison Chen.

The Timberland x Edison Chen Future73 collection embraces circular principles in both material selection and construction methods. Thus, the Timberland x Edison Chen Future73 6-Inch Boot Timberloop is specifically designed for recyclability at the end of its life cycle. Through the Timberloop program, the soles can be easily disassembled due to their unique stitching. The majority of the boot is crafted from premium materials sourced from farms practicing regenerative agriculture (70% of the leather upper and 55% of the rubber outsole), promoting environmental restoration.
The textile pieces in the collection also prioritize circularity, featuring 100% mono-fiber regenerative organic cotton (without blending) and minimizing small components for easier disassembly.
The boot’s design, rich with history and emotion, showcases tiger-print panels as an ode to the jungle’s king, along with a Buddhist mantra embossed on the upper: “If it exists, it exists; if it ceases to exist, it also ceases to exist.” This peaceful message underlines the collection’s overarching theme of interconnectedness. The tiger print and Buddhist proverb are subtly incorporated into the clothing, harmonizing with the footwear.
The Timberland x Edison Chen Future73 textile collection also comprises a garments line including a kimono, quilted jacket, cargo pants, graphic embroidered over-shirt, hooded sweatshirt, chest embroidered t-shirt, and quilted scarf. Key features include patch pockets, cotton buttons, and co-branded woven labels. The fusion of workwear style and Asian elements, such as the kimono, highlights CLOT’s philosophy of uniting Eastern and Western cultures. The “vine leaf” color, inspired by military uniforms, evokes Edison Chen’s concept of an “urban ninja” wardrobe.
The Timberland x Edison Chen Future73 collection is now available on timberland.com, in Timberland stores, and at select retailers worldwide.
