As part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, in addition to the Nike Air Max 1 “Somos Familia” that we talked about in this post, Nike is also including a Nike Dunk High “Somos Familia”.
Dressed in a very rich color palette of “Off Noir”, “Starfish”, “Dark Driftwood”, “Lemon Wash”, “Sail” and “Black”, this Nike Dunk High offering combines mesh, suede and leather along with canvas. Its construction brings out a split design that represents salt and water, both of which are fundamental elements that are offered on Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). According to tradition, salt is a symbol of purification and prevents the body from losing its essence during the journey, while water quenches the soul’s thirst during its journey.
The smooth leather overlays are made with the “Yellow Ochre” shade while the toes and quarters are richly decorated with embroidery inspired by the sun. Swoosh’s Día de Muertos logo is stamped on the lower side heel and insoles for added style.
Suede Swooshes, a white midsole on a gum rubber outsole, complemented by insoles stamped with “Somos Familia” and special packaging finalize the design.
