First teased in January at the presentation of sacai’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, the Nike Cortez 4.0 x sacai has been officially unveiled with a release date of August 30.
The release of the Nike Cortez 4.0 x sacai comes right on time this year as the American oufitter celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Cortez.
The collaboration with sacai founder Chitose Abe is one of many tributes throughout this year to celebrate the half-century of the silhouette originally released in 1972 and imagined by Nike co-founders Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight.
Chitose Abe revisited the Nike Cortez, originally developed as a track shoe for the 1972 Summer Olympics, in its OG color palette and with sacai touches throughout.
For example, the Nike Cortez 4.0 x sacai comes with a white leather base, lifted by gray and red suede inserts and blue accents.
The sacai touches come in the form of the brand’s iconic stacking (2 collars, 2 Swooshes, 2 tongues) while the sculpted midsole retains the wedge shape of the original for an experimental touch that bridges the gap between past and present.
Co-branding on the tongues, a visible Zoom Air on the forefoot, and special packaging complete the design.
The Nike Cortez 4.0 x sacai will be available on sacai.jp starting August 30, then on Nike.com on August 31.
