The TAAKK Fall 2023 season began with a search for one’s own strength, a quest to create formidable pieces of clothing that truly embody the designer’s identity. TAAKK, led by designer Morikawa, has always pushed the boundaries of traditional menswear design through a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates extensive material research and innovative fabric treatments.
The collection was heavily influenced by abstract paintings, drawing inspiration from the rise and fall of paint on canvas, the interwoven sentiments, and the humanity and soul of the creator. This inspiration is evident in the fabric choices, which feature graphical representations of self-portraits, contrasted textures, and altered jacquard angles.
In addition to the traditional fabrics, TAAKK also utilized techniques combining free-expression fabrics in creating a blazer and coat that transitions seamlessly from classical wool-check to eco-leather. These pieces, such as a blazer that transforms into a military jacket, hold a duality that is further accentuated by set-ups reminiscent of primary colors in a vibrant and exhilarating visual collection.
Overall, TAAKK’s collection is one of self-reflection, with a focus on truth at the core and a collection deeply representative of the designer’s identity. The use of abstract paintings as inspiration, along with the incorporation of innovative fabrics and techniques, results in a collection that is both visually striking and thought-provoking.
