Weaving together the fabrics of mythology and contemporary design, SANKUANZ’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection brings to life the enigmatic Giantess. As the symbol of rebirth and chaos, destruction and order, the Giantess lends her diverse character to a collection that disrupts gender norms and intertwines high fashion with urban street style. Drawing inspiration from the multi-faceted nature of the Giantess, SANKUANZ’s newest collection speaks volumes about the brand’s creative breadth.
Following on from their successful exploration of female strength embodied in the figure of “la veuve noire,” SANKUANZ continues its tribute to female power with the series “CHAPTER 4 GIANTESS“. This exciting release features a unique collaboration with artist Amanda Ba, a talented contemporary illustrator whose artwork deftly captures the ferocity of the Giantess and the Pitbull. From mesh prints to laser printed denim, her illustrations bring the mythical to the material, all while retaining an unapologetic aversion to the ordinary.
The dichotomy of the Giantess is paralleled by the contrast between the edgy illustrations and the playful elements injected into the collection. Think plushie keychains in vibrant colors and adorable cartoon graphics that ornament the traditionally masculine garments. The incorporation of these youthful details both contrasts and complements the fierceness of the Giantess, shedding light on the brand’s quirky sense of humor and its homage to the diversity of youth culture.
The color palette, moving beyond the conventional black and white, features SANKUANZ’s signature green and purple transformed into soft lime and lavender. These muted hues provide the perfect backdrop for the intensity of Amanda’s fervent red illustrations.
Accompanying the clothes are a series of innovative bag designs. The Classic Dagger Bag, reimagined in satin, offers a delicate alternative to the prevailing rugged materials. Furthermore, the collection features the debut of the Loop Dagger Bag in silver, showcasing a uniquely wrinkled and creased leather finish.
The brand further extends the influence of the Giantess onto its jewellery and accessories, which stand as symbols of defence and confrontation. Masks that conceal the entire face are draped with a metal mesh adorned with tiny daggers and spikes dripping red jewels, blending expressions of protection and aggression. This accessory, with its combative edge, embodies the essence of SANKUANZ.
Set within the grandeur of a classic Parisian building, the collection’s unveiling is as mesmerising as the designs themselves. A projection of Amanda’s artwork, “Titanomachia, 2022,” illuminates the ceiling, transforming the room into a blood-red theatre, where Giantesses reign supreme. The immersive experience is completed with the rebellious tunes of 高龙宇 Alice Longyu Gao, creating a sonorous environment where classicism and pop culture interweave and collide.
