The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, a symbol of excellence and innovation, celebrates its 60th anniversary. To mark this remarkable milestone, Rolex unveils the new-generation Cosmograph Daytona, featuring redesigned aesthetics and advanced technology, while honoring the rich heritage of this legendary timepiece.
Since its debut in 1963, the Cosmograph Daytona has become synonymous with motor racing, embodying Rolex‘s dedication to precision and performance. Designed for professional racing drivers, this iconic chronograph has served as the ultimate instrument for measuring time intervals and determining average speeds. Even after six decades, its status among sport chronographs remains unrivaled.

Rolex has meticulously updated the entire Cosmograph Daytona range, showcasing subtle refinements to the case, dial, and bezel. The new Oyster case design accentuates the light reflections on the lugs and case sides, enhancing the watch’s visual appeal. Versions with a Cerachrom bezel, crafted from Rolex’s exclusive high-tech ceramic, are edged with a thin band of the same metal as the middle case, resulting in a harmonious color combination.
The new-generation Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona is powered by the calibre 4131, an evolution of the calibre 4130, featuring Rolex’s major innovations, including the Chronergy escapement. The new movement boasts enhanced aesthetics, with a cut-out oscillating weight and completely new finishes, such as the Rolex Côtes de Genève on the bridges. The calibre 4131 allows the Cosmograph Daytona to measure time intervals via the chronograph function while simultaneously displaying hours, minutes, and seconds.

Rolex’s expertise in crafting special ceramics for monobloc bezels and bezel inserts is evident in the new-generation Cosmograph Daytona. These materials are virtually scratchproof, with intense colors that resist environmental effects. The high-tech ceramic is also inert, rendering it impervious to corrosion.

The new-generation Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona features a range of options, including the 950 platinum version with an ice blue dial and a chestnut brown ceramic monobloc Cerachrom bezel. The Oystersteel and 18 ct yellow gold variants showcase black ceramic Cerachrom bezels with recessed graduations, numerals, and inscriptions on the tachymetric scale, coated with a thin layer of platinum or yellow gold through a PVD process.
With a 40 mm Oyster case, the new-generation Cosmograph Daytona is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet). The case provides optimal protection for the calibre 4131 movement, ensuring reliability and robustness. The 950 platinum version features a transparent case back in sapphire, allowing enthusiasts to admire the movement’s decorations and the oscillating weight in action.

The Cosmograph Daytona’s Oyster and Oysterflex bracelets are equipped with the Oysterlock folding safety clasp and the Easylink comfort extension link, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. The 950 platinum and 18 ct Everose gold versions also include patented ceramic inserts within the links, enhancing flexibility and longevity.
As with all Rolex watches, the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona is backed by the Superlative Chronometer certification, meeting Rolex’s rigorous criteria for precision, power reserve, waterproofness, and self-winding. This certification ensures that every Rolex watch delivers unparalleled performance on the wrist.

Rolex’s commitment to innovation and excellence is further demonstrated by the patented Chronergy escapement featured in the calibre 4131. Crafted from nickel-phosphorus, this escapement boasts high energy efficiency and resistance to strong magnetic fields. The movement is also equipped with a blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy, offering exceptional stability against temperature variations and shocks.
The Rolex-designed, patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers increase the movement’s shock resistance, while the optimized ball bearing oscillating weight ensures smooth operation. The calibre 4131’s self-winding system relies on a Perpetual rotor, and thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve extends to approximately 72 hours.

The new-generation Cosmograph Daytona is available in several versions, each with unique features and materials. The 950 platinum model, with its ice blue dial, is fitted on an Oyster bracelet, while the Oystersteel and yellow Rolesor versions (a combination of Oystersteel and yellow gold) feature white lacquer dials on the same bracelet. The 18 ct Everose gold version sports a bright black dial and Sundust counters, also presented on an Oyster bracelet.
The 18 ct yellow gold variant, with a golden dial and bright black counters, is fitted on an Oysterflex bracelet. This innovative bracelet, developed and patented by Rolex, comprises two flexible, curved metal blades overlaid with high-performance black elastomer. The Oysterflex bracelet is furnished with the Rolex Glidelock extension system, enabling fine adjustments to the bracelet length without the need for tools. The Rolex Glidelock on the Oysterflex bracelet has six notches of approximately 2.5 mm, allowing easy adjustment of up to 15 mm.

As a testament to Rolex’s commitment to excellence, the Superlative Chronometer certification guarantees that every Rolex watch meets the brand’s stringent criteria. This certification symbolizes the green seal that accompanies each Rolex watch and is backed by an international five-year guarantee. With the new-generation Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona, Rolex continues to uphold its reputation for innovation, precision, and performance, ensuring the iconic timepiece remains a benchmark in the world of motor racing and beyond.
