Stepping into the plush ambience of Palais de Chaillot, one is immediately enveloped in the aura of rokh’s meticulous artistry, where elegance converges with a playful twist. This Spring 2024, rokh unearths a collection that intricately dances between structured perfection and liberating fluidity.
Rok Hwang nurtures a childhood aspiration of artistry; his collections, though mathematical and precise, encapsulate an unyielding allure. “I spend a lot of time cutting, crafting things. I’m hands-on,” Hwang expresses, his eyes illuminating with passion. It’s a devotion that breathes life into silhouettes, infusing them with both immaculate precision and whimsical playfulness.
For the Spring 2024 collection, rokh paints a tableau of vintage-inspired workwear washed in soft cotton, nostalgic striped shirts, and athletic ensembles. One cannot overlook the modernized sailor trousers or the Oxford shirts woven from avant-garde technical fabrics. These pieces mirror a nostalgic echo while embracing the modern man’s spirit.
“I really wanted the central focus to be on what we are good at, which is our silhouette,” Hwang professes backstage.
His garments reveal an intimate dialogue between structure and freedom, precision and play, in the form of layered trenches and deconstructed blazers. Hwang presents a fusion of elegant seduction and noble grace without compromise, offering his audience a sartorial experience that transcends the ordinary.
This collection unveils a universe where classic wardrobe essentials undergo meticulous deconstruction, attaining new forms and silhouettes while honoring their timeless grace. The nuanced appearance of distressed vintage workwear in washed cotton, the sun-bleached allure of striped shirts, and the dual effect of the reinvented 1900s sailor trousers bear testimony to rokh’s aesthetic acumen.
The color palette, washed in vivid magenta, pebble beige, and delicate blush pink, intermingles with the eternal black, white, and denim blue – invoking a narrative of vintage elegance. In this aesthetic realm, Hwang masterfully reconstructs military jackets, trousers, and wide-leg culottes, unveiling the body’s natural curves with impeccable cuts and fits.
The materials tell tales of authenticity, drawing roots from classic workwear and blossoming into contemporary magnificence. Heavy drill cotton, cavalry twill, knitted wools are narrators of this sartorial saga, with chiffon, crepe silk, and textured woven knits weaving the intricate subplots.
