Fashion designer Philipp Plein made a grand return to Milan with a spectacular PHILIPP PLEIN Fall 2023 show held at the former Fiera di Milano. The event attracted thousands of guests, who were treated to a stunning display of fashion and entertainment. The last time Plein staged a runway extravaganza in Milan was in February 2020, just days before the city went into lockdown, and he picked up right where he left off.
The Chrome Cowboy show kicked off with a roar, as 100 models hit the 350-meter runway, accompanied by ersatz-NASA spacesuit clad motorcyclists zooming up and down. All this in an electric atmosphere, charged with the smell of diesel.
The first part of the show featured women’s wear, with models sporting stetsons, silver cowboy boots, wide check overcoats, patched denim, faux fur crop tops, sequined miniskirts, fringe-backed donkey jackets, silver shearlings, and more. The women’s wear was followed by men’s, with a shift in the music and lighting, as the focus turned to menswear. The men’s looks were inspired by their female counterparts, with checks, bikers, Swarovski, and attitude all making an appearance. The bling became ever blingier, earning Philipp Plein the title of “Liberace of Streetwear.”
At the end of the show, Philipp Plein rode his own bike down the runway to thunderous applause, followed by a performance by singer Bia singing “Whole Lotta Money.”
