It’s no secret that adidas Originals and Pharrell Williams have a history of revolutionizing the footwear industry with their collaborative endeavors. Their creative genius has transformed some of adidas’ classic designs, including the renowned Superstar and NMD. Today, the game-changing partnership reaches a new zenith with the unveiling of their most ambitious collection yet – Humanrace Samba Colors by Pharrell.
Building upon the launch of Humanrace Samba last year, the duo has taken a step further into the realm of luxury footwear. They’ve masterfully adapted the original Samba design to reflect the vibrant ethos of Humanrace, reimagining it in a spectrum of colorways that encapsulate the brand’s spirit of diversity and vitality.
A tangible manifestation of both adidas’ historic silhouette craftsmanship and Pharrell’s love for luxury and color, this collection is more than just footwear. Pharrell remarks, “We’re instilling high quality materials and craftsmanship back into footwear,” emphasizing the collection’s unique positioning in the market.
Distinct from other Samba collaborations, the collection boasts noticeable transformations that add a touch of luxury to the classic silhouette. A signature attribute of Samba, the suede toe-cap, undergoes a premium upgrade under Pharrell’s artistic influence. It features an all-encompassing high-end leather upper and leather shoelaces from ECCO Leather, a pioneer in premium and innovative leather products.
This collaboration has not only elevated the design but has also made a notable stride towards sustainability. ECCO Leather’s water-saving tanning technology, implemented during the production process, has saved 20 liters of water per hide. This not only ensures a higher color fastness but also enhances the performance of the leather. A tribute to the silhouette’s rich sports heritage and adidas’ unrivaled history in football is reflected in the extended tongue of the shoe.
The traditional white or black base has been replaced with an exciting monochromatic color scheme, featuring Yellow, Orange, Pink, Lilac, Red, and an exclusive Humanrace Green for friends and family. To bring the collection to life, adidas joined forces with Scheltens & Abbenes for a unique artistic perspective on product photography. The campaign showcases each colorway and the premium materials in a visually stunning narrative, promising additional Charcoal, White, and Terracotta colorways in the future.
