Fashion’s ability to bridge generations and geographies shines brightly as Paul Smith unveils its latest Limited Edition collection, a collaboration with Commission that weaves together threads of cultural heritage and contemporary design.
The union of Paul Smith and Commission is not just a marriage of aesthetics, but a confluence of histories. Inspired by the ‘Father & Son’ photography book, the collection combines Paul Smith’s storied British heritage with Commission’s Asian-influenced sartorial flair. Designers Dylan Cao and Jin Kay bring their unique perspective to the collection, rooted in the vibrant stories of their immigrant backgrounds and their parents’ wardrobes from the 80s and 90s.
Paul Smith’s archives played a key role, with Dylan and Jin drawing inspiration from runway shows from the late ’90s to early 2000s. The result is a 22-piece homage that reinterprets vintage Paul Smith designs through an exaggerated and modern lens. Key pieces include an elegant wool-cashmere overcoat, a double-breasted wool suit and an outstanding leather field jacket, all reimagined with bold details and a contemporary color palette.

Paul Smith comments, “The infusion of new ideas keeps fashion alive, and Commission’s fresh take on our classics has injected a unique energy into this collection.” This sentiment is echoed in the design duo’s appreciation of the Paul Smith archives of the late 90s, finding harmony in the blend of masculinity, functionality and romance that characterized the era.
The collection is not just clothes, but a tapestry of stories, as seen in Commission’s signature designs – fatherly stripes, bold red accents and roomy outerwear. Textural contrasts come to life with punk-inspired mohair, snakeskin prints and florals, while raw denim and embroidered monograms pay homage to Americana.
Launching exclusively at select retailers like SSENSE and available in limited quantities, the limited-edition collection is a testament to the collaborative spirit of fashion. Beyond the designs, the partnership extends to mentorship, with Paul Smith assisting Commission with business development, further cementing this partnership’s role in shaping the future of fashion.
