Ibrahim Kamara has taken the fashion world to new heights with his latest collection Off-White Fall 2023. This was his first fully-authored mainline show for the brand, and he delivered a truly exceptional experience. Kamara, a multi-hyphenate talent in his own right, had to shape a unique narrative for the house and he did so by drawing upon personal and West African influences, while maintaining the recognizable elements of Off-White.
The show was held at the Tennis Club de Paris and guests were transported to a lunar landscape, complete with a large mirrored orb that served as the centerpiece. Kamara’s collection, “Lunar Delivery,” was a continuation of his previous work, but with new discoveries along the way. The designer drew upon the rich alluvial ochre of unpaved roads in West Africa, which was reflected in the red “moondust” and various looks throughout the show.
Transportation was a recurring theme in the collection, with wheel-inspired prints and tire-necked dresses, map-print dresses and shoes, and indicator light shoes that all showcased the journey motif. Kamara’s London roots were also evident in the many pleated kilts and dresses, which were paired with an Off-White sleeveless bomber jacket dress. The collection also included beautiful knitwear pieces, gabardine, silver space-inspired suits, and intricately beaded bombers and shorts.
In a season filled with classic 20th-century styles, Off-White’s 21st-century codes set them apart and gave them a valuable point of difference. Kamara described the collection as “punk, romantic, and sexy,” and those three words perfectly sum up the experience of the show. With this collection, Kamara has pushed the boundaries of fashion and taken us on a journey to the moon.
