The 25th anniversary of the Nike Air Max Plus marks a milestone for sneaker enthusiasts, especially with the unveiling of the eye-catching “Rainbow” iteration, set to grace the shelves next spring. This commemorative release is not just a nod to the enduring legacy of this iconic technical shoe by Sean McDowell but also a testament to the innovative spirit that Nike embodies.
Echoing the vibrant hues of a rainbow, the new colorway transitions smoothly from warmer reds at the toe box, through punchy oranges at the mid-foot, to the inviting greens encasing the heel. The gradient, reminiscent of a rainbow, is elegantly laid on a mesh base layer, bringing the sneaker to life with a burst of colors that mirrors the energy and dynamism of those who wear them. This colorful display is contrasted by the supporting details, which opt for a pitch-black finish, delivering an aesthetic balance that’s as appealing to the eye as it is to the foot.
“The detail and color blending is impeccable, embodying the same innovative spirit that we’ve upheld since the inception of the Air Max Plus,”says a spokesperson from Nike. The white Swoosh branding stands out against the backdrop of colors, accentuated by a matching midsole and the signature “TN Air” emblems. A black shank plate and a black rubber outsole complete the aesthetic ensemble, striking a balance between flair and function.
McDowell’s design, rooted in Nike’s rich running heritage, incorporates an evolutionary sole unit that was once exclusive to Foot Locker. Air Max bubbles at the forefoot adopt a dark hue, contrasting the deep blue finish of the Tuned Air unit at the rear-foot, highlighted by citrus tones on the medial side.
At $175 USD, the Nike Air Max Plus “Rainbow” is an investment in quality, a piece of history, and a vibrant addition to any sneaker collection. Available at select retailers and online at Nike next spring.
