Marine Serre, the fashion brand known for its commitment to upcycling and its edgy fashion sensibility, recently held its latest fashion show at the Grande Halle de la Villette. The show was notable for its emphasis on sustainability and environmental consciousness, with three 26-foot towers of secondhand clothing serving as both a reminder of the environmental cost of textile waste and as a model for a zero-impact show decor. The clothes on display will be used in the brand’s future collections.

The show was nearly an hour late due to the late arrival of Nigerian singer Burna Boy, but this did not deter the many celebrities in attendance, such as Tyga, Noah Cyrus, Soko, and G-Eazy, who mingled on the darkened set. Marine Serre also opened the display to the public, with more than 1,000 invitations snapped up online in less than a minute.

Marine Serre stated that her brand is at a turning point, and that she is now trying to bring upcycling to the street. She hopes that by bringing more people into her world, her climate change activism will gain momentum. The show included looks made from upcycled denim, household linens, T-shirts, and silk scarves. This season, the brand added tote bags to the mix, and the show notes claimed that each bag needs to be used 20,000 times, or roughly 54 years of daily use, to offset its overall impact of production.

The collection featured a familiar aesthetic, with archetypes reinterpreted using repurposed materials such as gray and black denim, household linens, tees, and leather. The brand’s iconic moiré fabric, which has become synonymous with the label, was crafted from recycled fishing lines and nets. The collection had a rebellious spirit, with a Motorcross-inspired tone reflected in the use of leather accessories. Tailored suiting, body-skimming patchwork, and fluffy knit designs added a touch of elegance to the runway. Serre approached silhouettes with a feminine touch, accentuating curves to create designs that were both complex and minimalistic.
