In the year marking the 20th anniversary of Manchester City’s monumental move to the Etihad Stadium, PUMA unveils an avant-garde tribute – the 2023/24 home kit.
Manchester City bid farewell to Maine Road in 2003 after eight decades, embarking on a three-and-a-half-kilometer journey to the Etihad Stadium. This transition heralded a transformative era for the club – a period punctuated by memorable moments, record-shattering feats, and the rise of new legends. PUMA’s 2023/24 home jersey is a woven testament to these enduring legacies, encapsulating the spirit of the Etihad Stadium and its residents’ shared sense of belonging.
Taking cues from the stadium’s iconic architectural features, particularly its four towering turrets, the jersey’s design portrays tonal stripes that echo the grandeur of the venue. Further enhancing the nostalgic theme, the stadium’s postal code proudly emblazons the jersey’s nape, commemorating two decades at the new home ground. The jersey also sports a white V-neck collar, a nod to the 2003/04 home jersey worn during the inaugural season at the Etihad.
As part of the jersey’s unveiling, PUMA and Manchester City assembled a diverse group of fans, club representatives, and first-team players from both the men’s and women’s squads. This gathering resonated with shared joy and anticipation, with notable participants such as young fan and member of City in the Community, Finlay, CITC ambassador Alex Williams, and passionate City supporters, Esme and Mark McCarthy.
Club ambassador and member of the 2003/04 team, Shaun Wright-Phillips, underscored the stadium’s significance. “The Etihad Stadium plays an important role in Manchester City’s history. The players and fans will surely have unforgettable memories of all the great moments we have shared in this stadium. It’s fantastic that PUMA drew inspiration from it for this year’s match kit,” he reminisced.
