The elephant, a symbol of excellent memory, mirrors Takada’s own legendary memory, and has consistently appeared in his designs. The tiger, on the other hand, has been a staple in KENZO collections since 1975, reflecting the founder’s fascination with the majestic animal.

Nigo’s creative designs for the elephant print draw inspiration from 1950s sailor tattoos, adding a retro touch to the collection. Meanwhile, the tiger print, also conceptualized by Nigo, was first showcased during the KENZO Fall/Winter 2022 collection. Each print has been meticulously crafted to honor the brand’s founder while incorporating Nigo’s unique artistic vision.
The “KENZO Varsity Jungle” collection features two distinct offerings – the “varsity” elephant and the “varsity” tiger. Both offerings include printed cotton T-shirts, embroidered jersey sweatshirts, and jersey cardigans. The elephant collection is available in black, white, blue, and pink, while the tiger collection comes in black, white, red, and green.
To bring the “KENZO Varsity Jungle” collection to life, the brand has collaborated with renowned photographer Frank Lebon. The resulting campaign highlights the Tiger and Elephant “coats of arms” as symbols of unity and belonging that transcend traditional family bonds. The powerful visuals feature a diverse collective of individuals, embodying a strong sense of community.
The “KENZO Varsity Jungle” collection is set to launch in April 2023 and will be available in KENZO stores and online at KENZO.com. With prices ranging from 130€ to 390€, this collection offers a unique blend of style, symbolism, and a celebration of Kenzo Takada’s enduring legacy.
