The JW Anderson x Wellipets collaboration has taken the fashion world by storm, creating a daring fusion of nostalgic childhood memories and avant-garde design.
Jonathan Anderson, a renowned fashion designer with an impressive track record of crafting statement clothing and accessories for both LOEWE and his eponymous brand, JW Anderson, has once again shaken the fashion landscape. This time, the spotlight is on his latest offering for the Fall/Winter 2023-2024 show in Milan, which features an unexpected collaboration with Wellipets, a children’s rain boots brand.
The runway show began with models in minimal attire, followed by others adorned with fabric rolls and realistic tomato-shaped tattoos. JW Anderson’s iconic ruffled shorts, leather iterations, colorful S&M booties, and trompe-l’œil printed T-shirts made appearances. However, it was the frog-head-shaped shoes, designed in partnership with Wellipets, that stole the limelight.
Interestingly, Wellipets was a brand cherished by Lady Diana for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Archival images from the 1990s reveal a young Prince Harry sporting the brand’s famous frog-shaped boots. It was these very models that inspired JW Anderson to reinterpret the classic design as rubber mules for his collection.
These Italian-crafted loafers utilize recyclable, injection-molded PVC rubber and feature a soft insole cushioned with Italian suede leather for optimal comfort. The final touches include a hand-applied, smooth red paint to accentuate the frog’s mouth.
