After a sandy runway on a Hawaiian beach, a serpentine walk through lush lavender fields in Provence or giant mounds of salt in the Camargue, JACQUEMUS finally returned to Paris for Spring 2023.
Named “Le Raphia“, the JACQUEMUS See Now, Buy Now collection took place in a vast hangar at Le Bourget airport, just outside Paris.
On a vast circular set covered with cream carpet, wept a storm of dried strands of raffia and circulated models topped with huge sun hats made of the same material, almost hinting at a new era for Simon Porte Jacquemus’ brand, as a kind of return to its roots.
“It’s the end of the summer. All these colors, all the dreams that I saw, that I had, go away. The smell, the beauty, The Raphia rain sweeps everything away as in a dream…Will I see again those big hats, those flower buckles, those prints? I think so,” reads the JACQUEMUS show notes.
As with his previous collections, this season focused on craftsmanship and artisanal details – for example, raffia was hand-embroidered by Maison Lesage and transformed into fabrics used to make these custom garments and as details on accessories and shoes.
