Almost two years after their first collaboration, Parisian label UNIFORME is once again invited to revisit J.M. Weston’s iconic 180 loafer.
Created in 1946, the 180 loafer, with its box calf leather, durable Goodyear construction that allows for resealing and distinctive gullwing strap, is an iconic model in the J.M. Weston catalog. It is handcrafted entirely at the Limoges factory, and requires up to 180 workshop handholds to make, hence the name.
Given carte blanche to reinterpret this great classic, the duo of founders of UNIFORME, Hugues Fauchard and Rémi Bats, gave the shoe a utilitarian touch of military inspiration. Thus, this “180 Wanderer” moccasin is adorned with contrasting white stitching and thick “commando” soles in notched rubber. Echoing their Spring/Summer 2023 collection, a discreet but recognizable rectangular bar appears above the back seam, a true signature of the house.
“Historically, Weston shoes are made to last and the quality of their construction allows them to withstand almost anything,” said Hugues Fauchard and Remi Bats of Uniform. “In choosing the moccasin, we wanted to take an urban archetype and transpose it into another, more outdoor context of walking. The “180 Wanderer” is a tribute to our shared values of quality, craftsmanship and utilitarian luxury.”
The “180 Wanderer” comes in two versions: in black Box calf with a natural rubber sole and in deep khaki Box calf with a black sole.
Using scraps from the manufacturing of these shoes, UNIFORME founders Hugues Fauchard and Rémi Bats have also designed a bell key ring, an elegant and practical accessory designed to be worn around the neck and available in black or khaki Box calf and extra slow natural vegetable tanned “Bastin” leather (natural color).
