In a spectacular display of Swiss ingenuity, two iconic brands, Hublot and Nespresso, join forces to bring forth an unprecedented creation: the Hublot Big Bang x Nespresso.

The timepiece stands as the first of its kind, a timepiece partially constructed from recycled Nespresso coffee capsules and grounds. This watch embodies the innovative spirit of both brands, pushing the boundaries of traditional watchmaking and sustainability in a masterstroke of creativity.

A Symphony of Sustainability

Over the past seven years, Nespresso has been breathing new life into used aluminum capsules through its Second Life initiatives. Partnering with prestigious Swiss brands, Nespresso has pioneered a unique way to transform waste into treasure. This year, Hublot joined the mission, resulting in the creation of the Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin, a testament to innovation, excellence, and sustainability.

Hublot, a watchmaking powerhouse established in 1980, is celebrated for its Art of Fusion concept. It has consistently pushed the boundaries of materials, creating new alloys, composites, and even pioneering the use of rubber in its watch straps.

On the other hand, Nespresso, since its inception in 1986, has revolutionized the world of coffee with its precise, convenient portioned coffee system. In 1991, Nespresso began a journey towards sustainability, devising a recycling system that separates aluminum from coffee grounds for reuse. Today, this process has reached a new level, with coffee capsules transformed into components of a luxury timepiece.

From Coffee Capsule to Watch

In an industry-first, the innovative minds at Hublot and Nespresso have found a way to repurpose coffee grounds from the capsules into watch straps. The recycled aluminum, fused with aluminum from Nespresso capsules, forms the case, bezel, crown, and pushers of the watch. This unique collaboration subtly celebrates the partnership, with the “N” of Nespresso engraved on the crown and the iconic color of the Master Origins Peru Organic capsule represented on the watch.

The 42mm case of the Hublot Big Bang x Nespresso, crafted from recycled aluminum – 28% of which comes from Nespresso capsules – exhibits a vibrant green hue. The same goes for the crown and pushers. The case back and container are both made from Eco-Titanium (recycled titanium), while the titanium folding clasp of the rubber strap, with its recycled aluminum cover decoration, is also anodized green.

The Art of Material Transformation

The Hublot Big Bang x Nespresso introduces the recycled coffee grounds into its straps, using Hublot’s patented One Click interchangeability system. The rubber strap composition required a meticulous balance of ingredients, achieved through Hublot’s precise craftsmanship. For the fabric strap, Hublot collaborated with SingTex, a Nespresso partner known for transforming recycled coffee grounds into a fabric called Scafé. This 100% recycled fabric, consisting of 5% coffee grounds and 95% recycled polyester, has been used for the first time in a watch strap.

An entire year of research and development was necessary for Hublot, working closely with Nespresso, to ensure perfect color harmony among the seven different materials comprising the watch. This successful collaboration has led to the creation of a watch that is symbolic of the potential of recycling and the limitless possibilities of circularity.

The Hublot Greenbox: A Testament to Sustainability

Alongside the Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin, Hublot introduces the Hublot Greenbox. This new box, designed to accompany all future Hublot watch collections, is made entirely from traceable oak wood, with its interior composed of 98% eco-responsible and recycled components. As part of the collaboration with Nespresso, the Hublot Greenbox is decorated with the logos of both Houses, applied using coffee grounds.

This collaboration reflects our philosophy and commitment to sustainability. The Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin, a watch born from a close collaboration between the product teams, R&D from Nespresso and Hublot, two Swiss houses with a pioneering spirit and born in the 80s. It took the teams a year of R&D to achieve a color homogeneity of the 7 materials composing the watch, find the right material dosages, and finally carry out the quality and durability tests of all the product elements.
