Maison Hennessy x Yan Pei-Ming - Lunar New Year 2023

Hennessy is celebrating the Lunar New Year 2023 with a monumental composition and a series of limited editions signed by the French-Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming.

Each year, Hennessy celebrates the arrival of the Lunar New Year with an exclusive limited edition created in collaboration with a major contemporary art artist. In 2021, it was with the Chinese artist Liu Wei, the following year with the Shanghai artist Zhang Enli and this year, the French painter of Chinese origin Yan Pei-Ming wá invited to celebrate the entry of a part of the world into the year of the Water Rabbit.

For his first collaboration with Hennessy, the expressionist artist, who was born Chinese and later naturalized French, has created a monumental work measuring 19,7’ x 11.5’, called “La Grande Course” (“La Grande Course”), which does not feature a single symbolic animal, but the entire zodiac in all its diversity, galloping in unison. The work, whose composition with its amber, orange, russet and burgundy tones recalls the amber and mahogany hues of Hennessy X.O. – carries a message of hope, a symbol of inclusion and a boost to the future after a particularly difficult period. Its allegory is one of unity in diversity: across generations, geography and families – and despite differences – culture is what connects us all.

When you hold a bottle of cognac up to sunlight, its hues vary so much I wanted to portray cognac but it’s light that is really the color of this painting,”explains the artist.

This exceptional painting will be accompanied by limited Lunar New Year editions of Hennessy V.S.O.P, Hennessy X.O, and Hennessy Paradis cognacs created exclusively for the Lunar New Year featuring elements of this artwork. The most precious piece in this range is a one-liter Hennessy Paradis decanter created in collaboration with Maison Bernardaud and hand-decorated in the porcelain maker’s workshop in Limoges. Produced in a limited and numbered edition of only 888 pieces, the decanter is presented in a beautiful wooden box and sold exclusively in selected retail stores.
