As the brand’s 40th anniversary approaches in April 2023, G-SHOCK is launching a series of commemorative models including this “Red Flare” capsule.
The two-model capsule, the MTG-B3000FR and GWG-2040FR, features the brand’s iconic red color, which was inspired by the image of a powerful solar flare.
The two “Flare Red” 40th anniversary special models are made up of multi-colored laminated glasses designed with phosphorescent materials in G-SHOCK’s signature red color, evoking solar flares. G-SHOCK used a brand new technique developed to laminate together sheets of carbon and colored fiberglass and cut them to the shape of the glasses.
The phosphorescent particles mixed inside the fiberglass sheets create a beautiful and powerful visual effect, even in the dark. Each eyewear is unique as the materials have a singular appearance depending on appearance depending on where the bezel was cut in the lamination.
For the GWG-2040FR, glow-in-the-dark particles were mixed into the forged carbon of the lugs that connect the case to the bracelet, creating random patterns that glow in the dark.
G-SHOCK’s 40th anniversary logo, designed by graffiti artist Eric Haze, is engraved on the case back – the two partners recently unveiled a collaborative watch. Four stars were also stamped on both watches, one star for each decade, the first nod to G-SHOCK’s 40 years of innovation.
