The Winding Experience
The first interaction with a mechanical watch is through winding. Calibre FB-T.FC, equipped with a fusee-and-chain transmission, features a differential at the center of the fusee, making winding smoother and less strenuous. The 9mm crown requires 70 turns to fully wind the mainspring, and a safety device prevents overwinding by disengaging the dynamometric spring once the tension exceeds the permitted values.
The Fusee-and-Chain Transmission
To achieve chronometric performance surpassing COSC standards, Calibre FB-T.FC utilizes an inverted fusee and a suspended barrel, connected by a chain ensuring constant force throughout the 53-hour power reserve. A Maltese Cross stopwork device at the top of the barrel mechanically limits the mainspring’s operating range, preventing it from delivering too much or too little energy.
The Tourbillon with Central Seconds
The constant energy delivered by the fusee-and-chain transmission is directed to the patented escapement, a tourbillon with central seconds at the 6 o’clock position. This construction optimizes energy transmission by reducing the number of gears and minimizing friction-related irregularities.
Power-Reserve Indication
The power-reserve display of the Calibre FB-T.FC is based on a patented mechanism that elegantly links the barrel to a cone moving up and down a threaded central arbor. The upward and downward movement of the cone is measured by a feeler tipped with a ruby roller end, which rotates a rack that, in turn, indicates the power reserve level on the dial side.
Pillar-Based Construction: A Nod to Marine Clocks
The vertical, pillar-supported construction pays homage to the marine clocks designed by Ferdinand Berthoud while providing an unprecedented level of technical and aesthetic expression in contemporary Haute Horlogerie.
The Final Edition: 38 Customizable Movements
In reference to the 38 years after Ferdinand Berthoud became a Master Horologist, the last 38 examples of Calibre FB-T.FC-2 will be dedicated to the Chronomètre FB 2T collection. This final edition offers three bevelled and engraved sapphire half-bridges, hand-sandblasted finish, and the option for collectors to customize the case material, dial color, and leather strap. However, the round case remains exclusive to the FB 2T collection.
The Chronomètre FB 2T is available in three distinct versions: FB 2T.2 in 18-carat rose gold with a black satin-brushed dial; FB 2T.2-1 in 18-carat rose gold with a ruthenium satin-brushed dial; and FB 2T.1 in 18-carat white gold with a blue satin-brushed dial.
