Federico Cina, with a tender nostalgia, takes us to his homeland with the latest Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
Inspired by the summer, Federico Cina has spun a tale from the cradle of his Romagna roots, capturing the rugged beauty of the sun-soaked terrain and its resilient inhabitants. This collection is a homage to a time when the connection to the land was organic and deeply cherished, traced by the echo of past generations and their symbiotic relationship with nature.
The rhythm of the seasons and the labor of generations are carefully threaded into the collection, as a poignant reminder of the dignity inherent in the physical bond with our places of origin. Cina presents “TERRA,” a collection that weaves an enchanting tale of harmonious coexistence, distancing itself from industrial exploitation and reconnecting with a simpler, more humble life.
Central to this collection is the emblem of the apple, seen as a bridge between humanity and nature. “It’s spherical shape seems to narrate the story of the entire world,” CINA muses, referencing the poetic imagery of Tonino Guerra, a fellow Romagna native. Guerra, a poet with deep roots in nature, saw the apple and other regional flora as soulful entities that deserved preservation in “a place of the soul” or L’orto dei frutti dimenticati.
In a landscape painted with the arid hues of Romagna’s summer, the Spring/Summer 2024 collection is imbued with earthy tones. The evening beige of wheat fields, the parched brown of the earth, the off-white of walls, the green vegetation, and the shadowy darkness of leafy canopies find representation in threads and fabrics, telling a cyclical tale of time and transformation.
An intricate detailing is seen in the way time’s wear leaves its imprints. Garments are darkened, aged, and consumed to reflect the flow of life. Cina transforms workwear and household garments into contemporary fashion pieces, crafting an intriguing blend of history and modernity. Lute sacks transform into sweaters, natural and unbleached yarns are knitted, unraveled, stressed, and decomposed. The collection pays homage to a life lived close to the land, a life that breathes in sync with the rhythm of the seasons.
Federico Cina further infuses the age-old tradition of Faenza terracotta into his collection. Garments morph into inhabitable sculptures, with pottery transforming into earrings and accessories. The hands of local artisans breathe life into these pieces, with embellishments and appliques merging seamlessly with the clothing.
In the wake of recent environmental disasters, Federico Cina’s tribute to Emilia Romagna region takes on a new meaning. A testament to resilience and tenacity, the collection is a heartfelt message of solidarity and a poignant reminder that the land we hold dear needs to be celebrated, preserved, and loved. His Spring/Summer 2024 collection is more than a line of clothing—it is the resilience of a people and the spirit of a land sewn into each piece.
