Spanish club FC Barcelona has unveiled its home shirt for the 2022-23 season, drawing inspiration from the 1992 Olympic Games and the 30th anniversary of the global sporting event that profoundly transformed the city.
The 2022-23 shirt produced by Nike marks a break from previous Barcelona kits. The iconic blue and red stripes – which give the club its nickname Blaugrana – now feature two different shades of blue: a light blue and a navy blue. These two shades of blue are meant to represent the spirit of that period of regeneration and redefinition, a time when Barcelona opened up to the world and the world opened up to Barcelona.
Indeed, to host the 1992 Olympic Games, the Catalan city underwent a massive transformation, with the construction of the Olympic Village and Port Olympic (a new seaside marina to host the various sailing events), as well as the installation of many new green spaces and landmarks throughout the city that definitively projected the city into the era of modernity.
The dominant tone is still dark blue, which is used on the collar, sleeves, shorts and socks, again showing a bold difference with previous FC Barcelona kits.
Spotify debuts on the front and UNHCR/ACNUR on the back
Another key design feature is the inclusion, for the first time, of partner Spotify on the front of the shirt, after the audio streaming service signed a huge sponsorship deal with the club earlier this year. The new sponsoring partner comes alongside the Nike Swoosh and the club’s crest. On the back, we find the logo of the UN agency, as well as that of the Barça Foundation team playing in the Liga Genuine, which is now UNHCR/ACNUR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).
Shirts for life
To mark the launch of the home shirt, FC Barcelona is also unveiling a new promotion involving all fans who purchase the home shirt at the Barça Store or the club’s online store between June 3 and 30. They will all be entered for a draw to win a lifetime supply of shirts.
Specifically, from the 2023/24 season and for the rest of his life, the winner of the draw will receive the last official home shirt every year.
The new kit is available now via the FC Barcelona online store.
