The Fall/Winter 2023 collection from Ernest W. Baker is a departure from the brand’s traditional inspiration in menswear. Instead, the collection, titled “Grandma Chic,” draws from the elegance and glamour of elderly women.
This collection marks the introduction of Ernest W. Baker’s womenswear line, but the inspiration is not meant to be taken literally. The brand sought to explore how the elegance of older women can translate into both their menswear and new womenswear line.
In a time when the lines between menswear and womenswear are becoming increasingly blurred, the “Grandma Chic” collection embraces this blur by freely referencing both men’s and women’s styles while still maintaining a distinct identity for each.
One of the key elements of the collection is a sense of love and comfort, reminiscent of the warmth and care often associated with grandmothers. This is reflected in the use of rich bouclés, leopard prints, ear muffs, crochet knitwear, thick faux furs, and other cozy and comforting materials and styles.
As with all of Ernest W. Baker’s collections, a piece of the brand’s identity is imbued in each garment. The brand hopes that this collection, with its focus on comfort, warmth, and longevity, will be cherished and appreciated for years to come.
