DIOR has once again joined forces with Parley for the Oceans, a prominent environmental organization, to unveil their eco-conscious men’s beachwear capsule collection.
The success of their initial collaboration, which took home the Forbes Green Ecological Transition Prize last year, has driven the fashion house and Parley to push the boundaries of sustainable fashion even further.
Kim Jones, the artistic director of menswear at DIOR, expressed his pride in the collaboration, saying, “Our second collaboration with Parley for the Oceans has resulted in a 96 percent eco-responsible collection, which is amazing. This capsule embodies commitment and desirability, blending innovation and technical performance with elegance.“
The collaboration began as a joint research project in 2019, aiming to develop new yarns and fabrics by upcycling marine plastic debris and fishing gear retrieved from coastlines and islands worldwide, such as the Maldives, Dominican Republic, and Sri Lanka. The result is a remarkable collection that incorporates 59 percent ocean plastic and 37 percent certified fabrics like GOTS, reducing the use of toxic chemicals in textile production.
Incorporating vibrant coral and lemon hues alongside DIOR’s signature gray, the design team expertly crafted fabrics using Parley’s upcycled alternative to virgin polyester. The collection showcases versatile pieces such as shorts, pants, T-shirts, polo shirts, and sweaters made from innovative materials like seersucker and silky knit.
In addition to Parley, the collection features collaborations with surfwear brand Vissla, producing wetsuits made from recycled jerseys containing 50 percent recycled cotton, and French specialist Notox for an eco-responsible surfboard. These partnerships reflect DIOR’s commitment to fostering a more sustainable future for fashion and Jones’ personal dedication to preserving the environment and endangered species.
LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, DIOR’s parent company, has pledged that all new products will result from eco-design by 2030, emphasizing a minimal environmental footprint throughout the production process.
Cyrill Gutsch, CEO and founder of Parley for the Oceans, believes that wearing a piece from the DIOR x Parley collection is a powerful statement. He said, “It demonstrates genuine concern for solving the environmental crisis in a creative and optimistic manner.” Gutsch also praised Kim Jones and his team for their dedication, stating that their collaboration proves “driving the material revolution is not a sacrifice but answers a new desire: to protect the oceans, climate, and our future.“
