Diesel’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection was not just a fashion show, but a celebration of sex positivity. Creative Director, Glenn Martens, sent a powerful message through the use of Durex condom packets as invitations to the show, which were branded with Diesel’s signature. The runway was the center of attention, with models walking around a mountain of 200,000 Durex condom boxes, with an additional 300,000 condoms to be given away free in April at Diesel stores around the world. Martens stated, “Sex positivity is something amazing. We like to play at Diesel, and we are serious about it. Have fun, respect each other, be safe. For Sucsexful Living!“
The installation previews a capsule collection with Durex, set to drop in April 2023, marking the first time Durex has collaborated with a fashion brand. The capsule features a T-shirt with the D of Durex swapped with the D of Diesel, sending a message about individual freedom to Diesel’s global community.
Diesel’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection was a combination of accessible fashion with a more experimental and ambitious approach. Distressed denim was a central theme, with the denim devoré developed in-house giving the effect of distressed jeans while revealing the skin beneath. The distressing was taken to new heights with laser-cut pieces, including dresses, hoodies, sweatpants, and more.
Artisanal pieces were also a highlight of the collection, with upcycled materials like metalized biker denim and a shearling jacket bonded with denim. Leftover nylons from old linings were covered with plastic and heated, creating an effect like strange fur, while deadstock faux fur was painted and covered in plastic, creating an effect like liquid fur. Technical biker jackets were blow-torched, creating their own extreme architecture.
The collection also included accessories such as slip-on heels draped in diamante, denim boots with utilitarian pockets, a new sneaker named the Prototype 3, and a new bag, the D-Charm, quilted in padded denim with a charm chain. The new Diesel Eyewear collection, in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, introduced a new frame with lenses floating on the wire temples. The Vertebrae, a brand new watch, was also introduced, with its face held by a casing shaped like the bones of the spine.
