Stiff winter weather and saving energy? That’s just fine with the arrival of the COS x Begg × Co plaids capsule that will warm you up and cover you in softness and warmth, helping you get through the nearly endless days of this winter season with comfort and solace.
The capsule from COS and Scottish knitwear brand Begg × Co includes two cozy plaids with an exclusive check pattern in two colorways: neutral browns and bright blue that nod to the Begg × Co factory’s location by the Scottish sea.
“The two colourways are inspired by our Scottish origins. The blue represents the location of our mills by the Scottish sea and using the waters in the finishing process. The brown is a nod to the natural colours of cashmere and how this is at the heart of our brand.”
The result of combining centuries-old processes with cutting-edge technology, the plaids are woven on 100-year-old antique looms from the Scottish cashmere specialist founded in 1866. They are woven from traceable and responsibly sourced fibers, and they require about 35 different processes – some by hand, “for example, the fringes will be cut by hand – which is a really nice finishing touch” – to make a plaid.
“The blanket sums up both COS and Begg x Co perfectly. There are elements of Scottishness, such as the check design, but with a contemporary twist to project it towards a more optimistic, sustainable future.
It’s 90% lambswool and 10% cashmere, which will make it warm, extremely soft and strong enough to be used over and over again,” says Ian Laird, CEO of Begg × Co.
“The beauty of a well-made blanket is that it will bring you comfort for many years to come. The world can be a crazy place at times and sometimes you need to just sit on the sofa, wrap up and escape the world. There is something in cocooning yourself in the softness of cashmere that will always make you feel well looked after and protected,” he continues.
Championing a circular economy and responsible business practices, the collaboration offers a buy-back initiative to ensure that each blanket has a life beyond its initial use. In exchange for store credit – up to £40 (approximately $49 USD) blankets returned to UK Begg × Co stores will either be refreshed and resold, or recycled into new yarns to create new products.
