Children of the Discordance, the fashion label founded and directed by Hideaki Shikama, is known for its deeply personal collections that reflect the state of mind of its creator. Each collection is a reflection of Shikama’s unique ability to tell stories through his interpretations of seasonal concepts. The latest collection, “Interventions,” is no exception.
Shikama’s Fall delivery is built around the idea of change, and how adding even a small element can bring about change. The designer was inspired by the disruptions caused by the pandemic and his own experience of working in a digital environment. He was also thinking about the effects of these disruptions, and his vision of a post-conflict world.
The collection features a curated mix of upcycled and new textiles, with a focus on military surplus fabrics. In Shikama’s ideal world, there would be no need for military-wear, so excess uniforms and fabrics would be upcycled for ready-to-wear clothing. The most striking pieces include military liner jackets, parachute pants, and jumpsuits, all augmented with graffiti in collaboration with a Japanese artist.
Other highlights include jackets and trousers made from distressed and cut military textiles, and a camo print created from photographs of trees and other natural elements taken at parks in Japan.
