It all started with a photo of Michael Jordan that gave birth to the famous Jordan Brand logo. In this photo from 1984, we see MJ, legs spread, doing a dunk. However, it is not a dunk, in the words of the great champion: “I was not even dunking in the photo. People are convinced that I was! I just jumped, from a still position, spread my legs and they took the picture. I wasn’t even running, it was a ballet move. And I was holding the ball in my left hand.“
Dunk or not, the famous shot gave birth to the logo of one of the most powerful brands of sneakers and sportswear in the world and inspired a trio of shoes including this Air Jordan 1 Mid “Chicago Skyline”.
We see the famous Chicago skyline beautifully staged on the leather base of the shoe that draws from blue (almost purple) to yellow towards the back. A palette that recalls the sunset of the famous shot.
While its inserts, side Swooshes, toe area mudguard as well as the collar take on a deep black hue, the heel inserts are illuminated by a blood red.
A white midsole and translucent outsole finalize the design.
