With its 2024 Resort Collection, Bottega Veneta offers a refreshing take on personal style. Matthieu Blazy recently shared insights into the creation of this pre-spring collection. According to Blazy, the collection is a celebration of individuality, focusing on pieces that are not just clothes, but narratives of personal history and uniqueness.
During a visit to his parents’ home, Blazy rediscovered his and his sister’s childhood wardrobes. This trip down memory lane led to the collection’s standout pieces. A crab print dress from his sister’s wardrobe, for example, has been transformed into a hand-knitted jumper and skirt duo in vibrant shades of turquoise and coral. Similarly, an ivory jumper with a snake design symbolises nostalgia with a contemporary twist.
Blazy’s approach to fashion is fascinating. He has a knack for turning ordinary items into extraordinary fashion statements. This collection is no exception, with regular garments such as jeans and tank tops made from premium leather, elevating everyday wear to luxury status. Among the more intriguing designs is a dress adorned with a marionette print, weaving a tale of whimsy and artistry.

Another source of inspiration for Blazy was the Commedia dell’Arte, whose vibrant harlequin costumes echo Bottega Veneta’s iconic Intrecciato pattern. The collection showcases this through a leather coat in mint, burgundy and white, and a striking ensemble of a yellow and black woven button-down shirt with matching trousers. This nod to historical theatricality blends seamlessly with the brand’s craftsmanship, bringing fun to high fashion.
In a bold move, a large intrecciato tote was introduced, its irregular weave resembling television static or broken pixels, challenging the conventional aesthetic of luxury accessories. This piece in particular demonstrates Bottega Veneta’s commitment to innovation and its ability to set trends rather than follow them.
